"How do I get on Google?" is the question we hear most. The good news: it's free, and most of your competitors have done it badly.
Step 1: Google Business Profile
Go to business.google.com and claim or create your profile. Use your real business name (no keyword stuffing — Google suspends those), your real address or service area, hours, phone, and category. Verify it (postcard, phone or video — Google decides). This is what puts you on Maps and in the "near me" results.
Step 2: A website Google can read
Google trusts a profile that links to a real website, and a website gives it far more to work with: your services, your town, your prices. The site needs a proper title for each page, a description, your business name/address/phone written the same way as on your profile, and it must load fast on a phone. Every IslandSites site ships with this done.
Step 3: Reviews
Reviews are the biggest local ranking factor you control. Ask every happy customer, the same day, with a direct link. Reply to every review — including bad ones, politely. Ten real reviews beat a hundred followers.
Step 4: Photos and posts
Upload real photos to your profile — outside, inside, products, team. Post an update every week or two (an offer, a new item, holiday hours). Active profiles rank higher.
Step 5: Be consistent everywhere
Same name, address and phone on your website, Google, Facebook, Instagram and directories. Mismatches confuse Google and cost you ranking.
Mistakes that keep Jamaican businesses invisible
- No website — or a Facebook page as the "website"
- Profile created but never verified
- Wrong category (e.g. "Store" for a restaurant)
- Hours left blank, so Google shows "might be closed"
- Never asking for reviews
Want it done for you? Every IslandSites plan includes setting up your Google Business Profile with you. If you want someone to actively run your Google presence and ads after that, our sister brand IslandLeads does exactly that.
